How did kinship help identify an individual's place in his or her society?

I believe the answer is: Kinship defined family patterns, inheritance, where one lived, and one's responsibilities in the family and to society.

Because of this kinship, certain individuals would automatically obtained a high status within a society even without making any effort (since they have a lot of connections and wealth), And some individualists would experience hardship due to their family/ethnicity background
