There are 40 students in a class and 30% are absent. How many are present?

If 30% are absent, then 70% must be present.

70% of 40 can be found by multiplying 70% times 40.

Just be sure to write 70% as a decimal: 0.70

   (0.70)·(40) = 28

28 students are present.
