Determine the significance of plasmids of bacteria

So a plasmid is a DNA molecule distinct from a cell's chromosomal DNA, They are naturally existing in bacterial cells. So the significance/function is that the genes in the plasmids provide the bacteria w/ genetic advantages, such as antibiotic resistance
