What makes King's "Letter from Birmingham Jail" powerful and effective is that, it uses  powerful and effective diction to persuade the Clergymen. His letter touched the hearts and conscience of the people. In this, he forcefully addressed  truths about life, respect, and human right for not just blacks, but for all people who faced injustice in the world. Hope this answer helps.
