Mary Catherine Bateson (1994) believes the zero-sum thinking of humans has creates competition for land and resources. She believes that zero-sum thinking entered society anthropologically with the development of agriculturally-centered societies. She believed that men are being raised in society to be competitors for land and resources and women are being raised to be collaborators.
