by the looks of it, it just might as well be the other way around, first find each of 15% and 12% of 520 then find how much money goes to each of them by wages of 2.15 and 2.50

Yes your right, the answer is B. Martin made $23 and tom made $19.78.

Martin's wages. $2.50×8=$20 and 12% of $20 is 3, so add $20+3=$23.

Toms wages. $2.15×8=$17.2 and 15% of 17.2 is $2.58 so add $17.2+$2.58=$19.78.
