150 years ago, the presidential campaign did not have social media as we have today. Debates were often held during the daytime, in the town square, as opposed to a national debate on live tv. These debates would them be publicize, in part, in the newspapers. Back then, campaign slogans were printed on small posters and even buttons. Today, we see billboards, bumper stickers, and signs all along the highway. Back then, women and slaves were not allowed to vote.
